CHARACTER INFO

Name: Kay Faraday

Canon: Ace Attorney Investigations

Age: 17

Appearance:

Kay is a 17-year old teenager with green eyes, jet black hair, and a rather thin frame. She's about 5'3'' (not including ponytail) dressed in a miniskirt (with shorts underneath), ninja-style boots, a vest with the iconic 'thief' pattern on it, and a giant blue scarf that looks like crow wings. Oh yeah, and a key in her hair. That's normal.

History:
Kay on the Ace Attorney Wiki

Canon Point:
Post Ace Attorney Investigations, after bringing the smuggling ring to justice.

Personality:
The first thing you'll notice about Kay Faraday is that she's upbeat and energetic. Really, this girl packs so much energy it's unrealistic. Nothing ever seems to wear her out or stop her from doing something when she's determined. And the best part (or worst, if you're not one for that kind of thing) is that she'll do this all with a smile on her face. Some people will be turned off by this part of her personality, mainly because she's perky, and a touch too perky at that. But she’s good-natured at heart and only wants the best for her friends. She just may or may not be a little flighty when she gets excited about something, even to the point of being wrapped up in her own little world.

Impulsive. That’s one way to sum her up. There is no stop between Point A and Point B with this girl. She’d rather just leap before looking, much to her friends and fatherly-figures dismay. Her energetic behavior certainly doesn’t help with this, and neither does her occupation as a legendary ‘Great Thief.’ If you’re looking for someone to climb a tree because ‘Why not?’ she’s definitely your girl.

You may also notice another part of Kay that is less-than-desirable to some more than others: her lack of fear. This girl is undoubtedly brave. If something is in front of her that's out of this world, she will either take a picture of it, ask a ton of questions to it (especially if it's sentient), or spy on it. Which method she chooses depends on the supernatural being. A part of it comes from her huge interest in cartoons/TV shows. Her favourite shows are the Jammin' Ninja and to a much lesser extent, the Steel Samurai. She sees these otherworldly creatures as being in a TV show, and whether or not that's her bravery kicking in or her complete lack of a sense of reality has yet to be determined. We want to assume it's the former, though.

After all, she seems to treat the people in Blue Badger costumes as the character, saying that she 'hates' the Blue Badger and even gets angry when she sees him. She tends to take shows very seriously, going so far as to participate in the Jammin Ninja vs. Steel Samurai debate, which is a lot like the Ace Attorney version of Marvel vs. DC.

While Kay exhibits a lot of traits that make her seem unbelievably bubbly, it is possible to get her to be upset, like all teenage girls. She lost her father at a very young age, and he was her only idle. Byrne was a single father, so Kay grew up with him, idolizing every part of him. To her, he was the best man in the universe, and nothing would convince her otherwise. So obviously, his death or a death in the family to someone is a sensitive subject for her. When Kay does get sad, she will often try to mask it, or at least hide it from others. She'll avoid your gaze, look upwards, or even just go hide. After all, one of the promises Byrne wrote down for her was to not cry in front of strangers, so you can bet that she would try to keep that promise at any and all costs. She loves her father, and he probably didn't want her showing such weaknesses.

Despite what seems to be a girl who can’t take anything seriously, it is anything but. Her air-headedness has it’s limits, and she knows when to buckle down and take action, and treat situations the way they need to be treated. Her big role models in her life are lawyers and detectives, so she’s had a great deal of dealing with mature situations like murder and crime in general. So while it may seem like she’s too naive to know just what’s out in that world, she may surprise you with her experienced take on criminal activity and even death.

Anger is a rare emotion coming from this girl, but it does exist. If you do manage to get on her bad side, she'll handle the situation very maturely, especially considering how immature she might seem. There are some lines you just don't cross with this one, and if you do, you might be surprised at the amount of competence she can have if she puts forth the effort. This, accompanied with her fearlessness can be a devastating emotional combo. She won't be afraid to speak up to people if they're talking nonsense, offensively, or the like. Mainly, she'll make her presence known. When it comes to holding grudges, she's about average. She'll hold it until it's resolved, and uses the forgive/forget when it's reasonable. However, when it comes to her father's wrongful death, she can't ever forgive who killed him, even if she was brought to justice.

Abilities/Powers/Skills:
As far as phyiscal powers and abilities, Kay doesn’t have much. She’s your average teenage girl, through and through. There's no secret hidden superpower when it concerns her. She can do average things, like lift somewhat heavy objects, have semi-decent endurance, and an above-average climbing ability.

She's training herself in parkour, as shown in game how she climbed up a building to get into where Edgeworth was being held captive, and jumping from an insanely large height when Edgeworth himself had to slide down a pole. This shows that she has a very athletically built body, as she doesn't seem to suffer from negative effects from doing such stunts.

If there's one thing about Kay that's considered out of the ordinary, it's her resilience. She tends to take a lot of physical injury very well. In the second game, Kay is actually thrown from a two story roof, only to land and still remain intact. She had injuries with minor amnesia, but her body itself seemed to be okay other than broken arms, thumb, and eye injury. Another moment of her resilience is when she was able to run into a burning building, and even after the firemen had put out the fire, she was inside, completely fine despite how smoke and ash were everywhere.

She's not anything supernatural, but it's above average.

Now here’s where we get into her skills. She’s certainly got a few tricks up her sleeve, usually revolving around her persona as a thief. Mainly things like picking locks, jumping from heights, sneaking around in the dark. You know, normal teenage girl things.

Weaknesses:
Kay’s greatest weakness of all is probably herself. She’s a teenage girl, and therefore isn’t as experienced with the world as a grown man or woman would be. To be fair, she’s seen a lot, but in essence she’s just an average girl from a slightly murder-notorious Los Angeles.

As stated above, Kay isn’t anything special in regards to being anything other than human. Obviously she’s not meant to take a lot of hits, just like any civilian. She’s not trained for it, nor is she really dressed for it. So a lot of physical damage to her is obviously going to bring her down, both mentally and physically.

Whatever else is considered a weakness would be listed in her personality!

Special Items:
Kay has a little fanny pack on her waist (it also keeps her shorts up, cause it’s a belt) that’s filled with all sorts of things a great thief needs. This includes: Little Thief, Byrne Faraday's journal, a notebook and a pen, a package of Swiss Rolls, an extra set of gloves, and her phone.

Details are below:

**Little Thief:

Little Thief is a device that looks like a walkie-talkie that Kay can input information judged on what she’s already seen. Once all the data has been put into it, she can create a holographic ‘scene of the crime’ with it. You can't interact with it, and unless something is put in exactly how it should be, there could be errors. (For example, if you don't put 'a person standing on top of a stage' you'll get a person standing in the middle of a stage, going right through it). It's more or less how Kay practices planning her heists, or lack thereof.

More specifically how it works, Kay types in everything on the keypad on the screen, and once she has all the information she needs, she holds it into the air, a green light comes out of the top slit. The green light can envelop everything in a 20ft radius, 30ft height (just guesstimating on this. It takes up considerable space, like entire rooms in the game, but for these purposes I'm going to limit it.). The holograms aren't tangible, so your hand will go right through them if you attempt to touch. It also can only do so much at one time. If you plug too much information into it, there will be conflicts, which is why Kay often uses the same room that a crime was in to do it. That way she doesn't have to place the furniture exactly as it was to clutter up what could be used for evidence and suspects.

As for size, it's about as big as a large PDA, and it seems to have a back that slides over it much like a graphing calculator would.

**Byrne Faraday’s Journal:

This is probably one of Kay's more important things that she keeps on her at all times. This journal used to belong to her now-deceased father, Byrne Faraday, and it contains everything that Byrne experienced as the Great Thief Yatagarasu. It spoke of all the secrets he used to get the evidence needed to convict a criminal, details on Little Thief, and his two partners, Detective Badd and Calisto Yew. Kay found this while searching her old house for anything of her dad's, and this was how she found out that she had inherited the title of Great Thief. Now it serves as her code of honor, as the rules and morals the Yatagarasu should have. It's also something that belonged to her father, who she views as her hero.

**Kay’s Promise Notebook:

This is another thing given to her by her father, except instead of in his death, this was when he was still alive. It's a small notebook that Byrne bought for her to keep all the promises she'd make to him in. Kay will often use this to do the same to other people, writing down promises for them to keep. Next to the journal, this is another one of Kay's most prized possessions, because not only was it a memory of her father, but it was meant FOR her, and only her.

The promises so far (written by Byrne) are as follows:

Promise I: Never take things from a stranger
Promise II: Never go anywhere with a stranger
Promise III: Always greet people with a smile, even people you don't know.
Promise IV: Never cry in front of strangers
Promise V: Always try your hardest to learn about things you don't understand.
Promise VI: If you ever have a boyfriend, you must bring him to meet Daddy right away.
Promise VII: Even when you have a boyfriend, never forget that I love you the most.

(Obviously she will break a few of these in Crux, but that's a must)

**Her phone:

Kay's one link to the outside world...well, until she got taken here. Her phone comes with her everywhere, and it can double as a camera, can play music (that's already downloaded on there), and play games that are already downloaded. However, there's no Earth internet in space., and not to mention no satellite, so when it comes to using it as a phone, she's a bit out of luck in that department. Also, it runs on battery life, so if there’s no outlets to recharge it, she’s pretty much got a lump of metal.

Stuff on her phone includes:
Pictures:
Group Photo
Zheng Fa Ceremony 1
Zheng Fa Ceremony 2

Music:
Theme Song (also her ringtone)
Finding the Truth!
Guilty Love by the Gavinners

September 10th, 2011.

It had been seven years since that incident. Seven years since...she was alone. Alone was an interesting way to put it. It wasn't as if Kay had a lack of supporting people around her. Oh no, her mother's family had gone out of their way to make her feel comfortable in her home. Her Uncle had gone to great lengths to see her smile. To get the light that had dimmed out back on her face.

And while it hurt, she put that smile on. She as as happy and bubbly as she could be, enjoying life one day at a time. You'd never guess that she held such a dark feeling inside of her. One that no child should ever have to live with. For the most part, she buried it under the happiness. But that didn't mean it vanished entirely. There were days it took control of her, and that same pain flooded back.

And today was that day.

Today was the anniversary of the day her father was taken from her. When she took him from her. What she wouldn't give to see that woman treated to the fair hand of justice. To see her father's death avenged.

She stood over that grave, fist trembling as tears ran down her face, wondering where she went wrong. It didn't seem to register to her back then...just exactly what had happened. Yes, she knew her father died, and she did cry...but she didn't feel like she mourned enough. Her thoughts turned to even earlier, with her father scribbling something in her notebook.

"Promise Number IV: Never cry in front of strangers."

A small smile graced her lips. "I haven't, dad. Not once."

She fell to her knees before the grave, hands completely limp to her sides as she cried. Smiled and cried.

Seven years, huh...

She kept that promise for seven years.
